2008 / 2009 Season Transfers

In / Out Player Position From / To Cost Verdict
In Mineiro Midfielder Free Agent Free Brought in as midfield cover as Essien is out for several months.
In Jose Bosingwa Defender Porto £16.2m An international level right-back. Perhaps seems to be a little overpriced but time will tell.
In Deco Midfielder Barcelona approx. £8m A very talented playmaker that has enjoyed a lot of success at Barcelona.
Out Carlo Cudicini Goalkeeper Tottenham Free Still one of the best keepers in the Premier League despite being no. 2 at the club. Lets hope that we bring in a good replacement.
Out Wayne Bridge Defender Man City £10m Never made the left back position his own after Ashley Cole arrived at the club. Still a very good left back who's departure can only weaken the squad.
Out Shaun Wright-Phillips Midfielder Man City £9m Showed flashes of brilliance but just had too much competition from other players to sustain a regular first team position.
Out Andriy Shevchenko Forward AC Milan Undisclosed An unsuccessful career at Stamford Bridge ends with "Sheva" going back to AC Milan. Never really had a good injury free run and was far too expensive at £30m.
Out Tal Ben Haim Defender Man City £6m Brought in as cover last season but never proved himself worthy of a starting line-up. Selling him for £6m is a good bit of business as he was signed on a free transfer.
Out Steve Sidwell Midfielder Aston Villa £5m Always a little out of his depth at Chelsea with only a handful of appearances last season.
Out Claude Makelele Midfielder Paris St Germain Free A fantastic player for Chelsea over the years but at 35 now you have to wonder how much longer he would have been able to play at the top level.
