2006 / 2007 Season Transfers

In / Out Player Position From / To Cost Verdict
In Ashley Cole Defender Arsenal William Gallas + £5m Regarded as one of the best left backs in the world. Ashley Cole will make a fine addition to the Chelsea team.
In Khalid Boulahrouz Defender Hamburg £6m A tough tackling defender that can play right the way accross the back. His arrival is sure to spark more speculation about the future of French defender William Gallas.
In Hilario Goalkeeper Nacional Undisclosed Brought in from Portugal. Hilario is most likely to be backup for Cech and Cudicini.
In Mikel Midfielder Man Utd / FC Lyn Oslo £16m A promising young talent that has already played at international level for his home country Nigeria.
In Andriy Shevchenko Striker AC Milan £30m On of, if not the best striker in Europe for the past five or six years. He will be 31 before the next season starts so £30m seems to be too much for a player who may only have a few years left at his peak.
In Saloman Kalou Striker Feyenoord Undisclosed An exciting young striker who has been scoring for fun in the Dutch League. If given the opportunity, he should prove to be big hit at Chelsea.
In Michael Ballack Midfielder Bayern Munich Free One of the best midfielders in the world, Ballack has won the German Player of the Year award three times. Ballack, 29, joins Chelsea on a free transfer but lets hope that his record £130,000 a week wages don't upset the other players at the Club.
Out William Gallas Defender Arsenal Ashley Cole -£5m A very good versatile defender that has become increasingly unhappy at Chelsea. It is a shame to have to sell a player as good as he is but you will never get the best from a player that does not want to play for you.
Out Robert Huth Defender Middlesborough £6m A favourite with the fans for his no nonsense approach to tackling. Robert Huth has never managed to keep his place in the Chelsea first team.
Out Hernan Crespo Striker Inter Milan Loan A fine striker that never quite seemed to settle in London. Inter have signed Crespo on a two year loan deal that will see out his remaining Chelsea Contract. Crespo joined for the 2003/04 season and scored 25 goals for the Blues.
Out Asier Del Horno Defender Valencia Undisclosed A left back that has lost his place to William Gallas in defence. His stay has only lasted one season and his departure is speculated to pave the way for Arsenal's Ashley Cole.
Out Damien Duff Midfielder Newcastle Utd Undisclosed A great player that has served Chelsea well but in my opinion has not quite lived up to expectations. He is also a bit too injury prone for my liking.
Out Carlton Cole Striker West Ham Undisclosed A promising young English player that has spent most of his Chelsea career on loan at other clubs. He only scored one goal last season and with the likes of Andriy Shevchenko coming in he was not likely to have many appearances this season.
Out Glen Johnson Defender Portsmouth Loan Played only a few games last season. Perhaps he will come back a better player after a seasons long loan at Portsmouth.
Out Jiri Jarosik Midfielder Celtic Undisclosed Spent last season on loan to Birmingham City and was unlikely to figure in any plans for the coming season.
Out Maniche Midfielder Dynamo Moscow Returned from loan Only brought in as cover for players missing from the squad due to the African Nations Cup. He did not have much of an impact on the team and I for one am happy to see him returned.
Out Eidur Gudjohnsen Striker Barcelona £8m A brilliant player that only had a handful of appearances for Chelsea this season. It is a shame that he has had to leave but competition for places next season will be even greater.
