2004 / 2005 Season Transfers

In / Out Player Position From / To Cost Verdict
In Jiri Jarosik Midfielder CSKA Moskow N/A Brought in as cover for the injured Scott Parker. Have not seen much of him in first team action.
In Ricardo Carvalho Defender Porto £18m Had a pretty good time at Euro 2004. Chelsea have payed way too much in my opinion. He will have a hard time proving his price tag.
In Tiago Midfield Benfica £8m Had never heard of him before we signed him. Apparently he was in the Portugal squad for Euro 2004 but did not play.
In Didier Drogba Forward Marseille £24m Was player of the year in France last season. At £24m he is Chelsea's record signing. Let's just hope that he lives up to expectations and maybe he will even give Thiery Henry a run for his money for the Premiership top scorer this season.
In Mateja Kezman Forward PSV Eindhoven Around £5m Had a good scoring record at PSV. A good player that should fit nicely into the current Chelsea squad. Mourinho's best signing to date.
In Alexei Smertin Defender / Midfield Portsmouth Returned from loan A good, strong player to have in any squad. Played well at Portsmouth and was perhaps one of Russia's better players at Euro 2004.
In Paulo Ferreira Right Back Porto £13m Played a part in giving a goal away in Portugal's opening game of Euro 2004 and was hardly seen again in the competition. Will have to be at his best to keep Glen Johnson out of the side.
In Petr Cech Goalkeeper Rennes £9m Played well in Euro 2004 so far. Much better 2nd Keeper than Neil Sullivan.
In Arjen Robben Left Midfield PSV Eindhoven £12m Showed good skill against Czech Rep. in Euro 2004. Will give Damien Duff competition for the left side.
Out Celestine Babayaro Defender Newcastle Undisclosed A useful player to come in at left back if Wayne Bridge can't play. Chelsea will perhaps need to bring in extra cover for this position.
Out Zenden Midfield Middlesbrough Undisclosed Never really showed his class at Chelsea. Spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough.
Out Hernan Crespo Forward AC Milan Loan Only scored 10 goals last season but was injured for quite some time. Chelsea will need to sign another striker now with only three forwards left in the squad.
Out Carlton Cole Forward Aston Villa Loan Was showing that he could become a promising young striker when he was loaned out to Charlton last season. Now he's been loaned out to Aston Villa. Will he ever play for Chelsea ?!
Out Jesper Gronkjaer Wide Midfield Birmingham City £2.2m A very frustrating player that can beat nearly anybody down the wing and then nine times out of ten delivers a poor cross. Scored 3 goals for Chelsea last season.
Out Mario Stanic Midfield Retired N/A Only appeared in 5 games in last season's campaign. At the age of 32 has decided to retire from the game after a series of long injuries
Out J F Hasselbaink Forward Released N/A Was Chelsea's top scorer last season with 18 goals and has been the top scorer for nearly every season that he has played at the club. He has now signed a two year deal at Middlesbrough.
Out Marcel Desailly Central Defender Released N/A Has had a fine career at Chelsea but is now past his best and close to retiring from the game. Chelsea have supposedly offered him a coaching role at the club.
Out Emmanuel Petit Centre Midfield Released N/A Only played in a handful of games last season after Chelsea Bought Claude Makalele. Was never as good for Chelsea as when he was at Arsenal.
Out Mario Melchiott Right Back Released N/A A good solid defender with a burst of pace. Will be missed if not replaced with a quality player.
Out Winston Bogarde Defender Released N/A Has been sitting in the reserves collecting a hefty wage for far too long. Glad to finally see the back of him.
Out Juan Veron Midfield Inter Milan Loan Never settled when he was at Man Utd and never looked like the player he should be at Chelsea.
